what is window tint?

More than just a darker window.

Window tinting isn't just cosmetic. It reduces cabin temperature, blocks UV radiation, and gives your vehicle a finished, cohesive look. Professional window tint is a thin film applied to the interior surface of your vehicle's glass. It works by rejecting solar heat, filtering out harmful UV rays, and reducing glare, all while giving your car a cleaner, more refined appearance. The difference between a professional installation and a cheap job comes down to the film itself and the person installing it. Phil uses ceramic window film, which blocks heat without interfering with electronics, GPS, or phone signals. And because he does the work himself, every edge is clean, every seal is tight, and there are no bubbles, creases, or shortcuts.

Why window tint?

Protection that starts at the glass.

Window tint is a thin, multi-layered film applied to the interior surface of your vehicle's glass. It works by rejecting solar energy, filtering UV radiation, and reducing visible glare, all while giving your car a cleaner, more cohesive appearance.

Heat Rejection

Ceramic tint blocks up to 60% of solar heat. Your interior stays cooler, your A/C works less, and you're more comfortable on every drive.

Glare Reduction

Blocks 99% of harmful UV rays that cause leather cracking, dashboard fading, and long-term interior damage.

UV Protection

Reduces harsh glare from sun and headlights, improving visibility and reducing eye strain during long drives.

Privacy

Limits visibility into your vehicle, protecting valuables and giving you a greater sense of personal space on the road.

Clean Aesthetics

By blocking UV and heat, tint extends the life of your leather, plastics, and upholstery. Your interior stays looking new, longer.

Interior Preservation

Quality tint gives your vehicle a cohesive, finished look. Phil matches the shade and finish to your car's character.
Film Options

Ceramic and carbon films. No cheap dye.

Phil only installs ceramic and carbon window films. These are non-metallic, so they won't interfere with GPS, cell signals, or toll transponders. They don't purple or bubble over time. Ceramic film is the premium choice: highest heat rejection, optical clarity, and the longest lifespan. Carbon film is a strong middle ground with excellent heat rejection and a matte-black aesthetic that many BMW and Porsche owners prefer. Phil will recommend the right film based on your vehicle, your goals, and your budget.

compliance

New Jersey tint laws.

Phil is familiar with NJ regulations and will walk you through compliant options. New Jersey restricts tinting on the front windshield and front side windows. The windshield may only have a non-reflective tint strip along the top. Front side windows must allow more than 70% of light through. Rear side windows and the rear windshield have no restriction. Phil will walk you through compliant options that still achieve the look and performance you want. Medical exemptions are available for drivers with qualifying conditions.

What Our Clients Say

"The heat rejection is night and day. Sitting in traffic in August used to be brutal, now the interior stays comfortable. Phil walked me through the NJ-compliant options and the clarity on the FormulaOne film is unreal."

aftercare

The first two weeks do all the work.

Window film cures over roughly 30 days, but the first two weeks are when most issues get prevented. Give the film time to bond properly and it will stay clear, crisp, and color-true for the life of the car.

01
Keep the windows up.

Give it 3 to 5 days in summer, up to a week in winter. The film is still adhering to the glass, and rolling down too early can break the seal along the top edge.

02
Haze is normal.

Cloudy spots and small water pockets during the first few weeks are installation moisture evaporating through the film. Everything clears on its own within two to four weeks.

03
No ammonia.

Ammonia-based glass cleaners break down the film and cause purpling over time. Use a tint-safe cleaner or plain soapy water with a clean microfiber for regular cleaning.

04
Trust the edges.

A fine line around the edge of each window is normal. The film is cut to work with the factory seal, not against it. It is not a defect and will not grow.

If you see bubbles after four weeks or any edge that looks lifted, bring the car in for a free inspection. Phil stands behind every install personally, and LLumar FormulaOne film carries a lifetime warranty.

Common Questions

Everything you want to know about window tint.

If your question isn't here, Phil is always happy to talk through it in a consultation.
Is window tinting legal in New Jersey?+
Yes, with limits. NJ law requires front side windows to allow more than 70% light transmission. Rear windows and the rear windshield have no restriction. The windshield can only have a non-reflective tint strip at the top. Phil only installs NJ-compliant tint and will tell you exactly what is legal for your vehicle.
What is the difference between ceramic and carbon tint?+
Carbon tint blocks heat well and has a matte finish that looks great on most vehicles. Ceramic tint goes further, rejecting up to 99% of UV rays and significantly more infrared heat, without interfering with GPS, cell signals, or radar detectors. Phil uses both and will recommend based on your goals and budget.
How long does window tint last?+
Quality ceramic and carbon films last 10 years or more when properly installed and maintained. Cheap dye-based films fade and bubble within a few years. Phil does not use dye films.
How long does the installation take?+
Most tint jobs are completed in a single day. Exact time depends on the number of windows and vehicle type. Phil will give you a clear time estimate when you book your consultation.
How do I care for fresh tint?+
Avoid rolling down your windows for 3 to 5 days after installation to allow the film to cure fully. Do not clean the inside of the windows during this period. After curing, clean normally with a soft cloth and ammonia-free cleaner.
Can tint be removed if I change my mind?+
Yes. Professional tint removal is clean and does not damage your glass when done correctly. If you ever need to remove or replace your film, Phil can handle that as well.
