Why the Factory Suspension Needed Replacement
My 2020 X3M Competition taught me one clear lesson: the factory suspension isn't good enough. I loved everything else about that car, but the OEM suspension compromised the driving experience.
That experience made suspension the first modification priority for the 2022 build. Before paint correction, before PPF, before ceramic coating, the KW V3 coilovers went on during the initial wheel-off prep work.
KW V3 Coilover Setup
KW V3 coilovers provide the adjustability the X3M Competition needs to respect match its performance capability.

Wheel and Brake Preparation
While the wheels were off for coilover installation, every component received proper attention. This is the right time to do work that's difficult with wheels mounted.
Wheel Cleaning and Ceramic Coating
The 892M Competition wheels received a thorough cleaning and preparation process before ceramic coating application.

Ceramic coated wheels resist brake dust bonding. Without coating, brake dust bakes onto wheel surfaces and requires aggressive cleaning that damages finishes over time. Coated wheels wipe clean with minimal effort.
Brake Caliper Ceramic Coating
The M brake calipers received the same ceramic coating treatment as the wheels. The coating protects caliper paint from brake dust and heat while making maintenance easier.
Black brake calipers show brake dust accumulation quickly. Ceramic coating prevents bonding and maintains the clean appearance that complements British Racing Green.
Future Classic 12mm Spacers
Future Classic 12mm wheel spacers carried over from my 2020 X3M Competition and fit the 2022 perfectly. The spacers push the wheels out to fill the fender arches properly.
Combined with the KW V3 ride height adjustment, the spacers create the stance that the factory setup should have delivered. The wheels sit flush with the fenders rather than recessed.
Wheel Liner Treatment
Wheel liners received Nanolex Trim Rejuvenator treatment before wheel reinstallation. This protects the liners from UV damage and road contamination while maintaining their appearance.
Small details like liner treatment distinguish thorough builds from quick ones. Every visible surface receives attention, even components most people ignore.

The combination of KW V3 coilovers, ceramic coated wheels and calipers, and Future Classic spacers transforms the X3M Competition's presence and capability.

More importantly, the suspension transforms the driving experience. Body roll decreases. Turn-in becomes more responsive. The X3M feels like the performance vehicle its specifications promise.
What Most People Skip
Most people install coilovers and move on. They skip the ceramic coating on wheels and calipers. They ignore liner treatment. They don't take advantage of the wheel-off opportunity to address every accessible component.
Six months later, brake dust has permanently stained their wheels and calipers. Road grime has embedded into unprotected surfaces.
Do everything while the wheels are off. The opportunity cost of reassembly and removal later far exceeds the time investment during initial setup.
